Tea/Afternoon Tea
The history of tea is fascinating going back nearly five thousand years, and played an important role in the recent economic and
social development of Britain.
Tea is by far the most popular drink consumed in Britain today, but despite its popularity, there is so much we still don't know about it.
The United Kingdom Tea Council is the independent body dedicated to promoting tea and its unique story for the benefit of those
who produce, sell and enjoy tea the world over. They represent the world's major tea producing and exporting countries, UK tea
packers and brokers and UK companies providing services to the tea industry.
Visit the pages of the British Tea Guild where you will find a wealth of
information on everything you ever wanted to know about tea and afternoon tea.
As a tea room our speciality is tea and all that accompanies this wonderful drink. We bake daily on our premises fresh cakes and pastries like classic Victoria sponge, lemon drizzle, ginger parkin, chocolate fudge, fruit cake as well as deserts and nostalgic puddings such as apple pie, lemon meringue pie, bread and butter pudding and seasonal crumbles. We use the finest ingredients free range local eggs, unbleached flour, golden caster sugar, finest vanilla extract, pure rich butter, organic milk, quality chocolate and cocoa powder and such.
Afternoon Tea
Of course no tea rooms is complete without the ultimate treat, AFTERNOON TEA and we certainly don’t disappoint. Our afternoon tea is presented on custom made solid silver three tier stands where delicate china plates are adorned with delicious finger sandwiches, homemade scone with handmade jam and Cornish clotted cream, and one of our mouth-watering homemade cakes. All this is accompanied by our house blend loose-leaf tea from Cotswold teas or any tea of your choice from our extensive menu.
Children’s’ Afternoon Tea
Our younger customers are equally important and valued to us and for them we have created a special version of the afternoon tea. Served on their very own pastel coloured stand it is adorned with finger sandwiches, cinnamon toast, fresh fruit and yummy homemade cake of choice.
Tea.
We believe children should start tasting and learning about tea and its health benefits from a young age and to introduce them to tea we have chosen the Arabella special blend made from apple, orange peels, rose-hip peels, gummy strawberry, pieces of cherry, leaves of blackberry, flowers of rose.
Our Scones.
No afternoon tea is complete without a scone and we have worked tirelessly to perfect our recipe making our scones very famous indeed! So popular they have proved in fact, that we have developed a range of flavours, all flavoured with purely natural ingredients such as real flowers, fruit and freshly ground spices. Our current speciality scone range includes, rose, lavender, apple and cinnamon, lemon, ginger, gluten free and chocolate!
Our Preserves.
We constantly taste test new and exciting jams all made by skilled individuals by hand and in small batches. None of the mass produced jelly like stuff! Currently we are using two main suppliers 'Clippy’s Apples' and 'Classic Preserves'.
Michelle from Clippy’s is passionate about the preserves she makes locally in Sale, Cheshire. She is dedicated to the preservation of British apple heritage. All her preserves are based upon 100% British apples and are lovingly handmade in small batches to retain their true flavour, with no added nasties!
Teresa and Nick a brother and sister team from Classic Preserves are equally passionate and it shows through. Working from a kitchen unit at Brogdale Horticultural Trust, the home of the "National Fruit Collection" in Faversham, Kent, their kitchen overlooks the orchards where much of the fruit comes from. The rest comes from local farmers. They specialise in using single variety fruits and seek out rare and "heritage" varieties. Their full flavoured recipes have no need for artificial colours, additives or preservatives. They use a high fruit content and the minimum of sugar
We change our variety of jams frequently and try to match them to our speciality scones with flavours such as lemon and ginger, morello cherry, strawberry and rose petal, apple and pear mixty maxty, and apple and fig.
